Traditional Tapestry Design, Luxury Look and Feel, Combined with Modern Convenience!
This is a luxury tablecloth produced at a traditional manufacture using the techniques that supplied tapestries to the Russian Royal Court over centuries. The artisanal skills honed while catering to the most demanding customers combine with a purpose-built production line and modern materials to deliver an exquisitely crafted tablecloth.

The history of tapestries has roots in ancient times. One of the earliest samples of the tapestry cloth was uncovered in Tutankhamun’s tomb (ca 1323 BC), depicting the Egyptian pharaoh. The technology was also known in Ancient Greece, Rome, China, America.

In Europe tapestry techniques gained popularity during the Middle Ages in Germany, France, and Italy. The process of making a tapestry was quite laborious and slow, which spurred technological innovation to make brighter, more long-lasting cloth.

In 1716 the Russian Emperor Peter the Great decided to found a royal tapestry manufacture in St Petersburg and invited the French artisans to set it up. According to the agreements the French masters not only produced the tapestries themselves, but also trained a generation of Russian artisans. By 1733 there were already five tapestry manufactures in St Petersburg and the Russian specialists performed most work. The tapestries were usually commissioned by the royal and noble courts and can now be found in many palaces and museums both in Russia and around the world.

Our tablecloth is manufactured according to the technological knowledge accumulated during the centuries of tapestry-making and combines it with modern materials. The table cloth is made from polyester, which tackles the most common issue with traditional tapestries, the fading in the sun.
